Pawn's Logic is a family band that originated in the Nielsen living room when my daughter Bethannie asked me to play "Time in a Bottle" on guitar so she could sing it for her husband, Chris on their wedding night. The song has two parts, so I drafted my son, Edward, to play the nylon string guitar part. Since our pilot performance, we have worked together on some recordings, most notably Bethannie's covers of "Time in a Bottle," "Hallelujah" and "Baby Mine." Edward continues to contribute as a trombonist.
We completed our concept album, Under the Mountain in 2016. It is the fictional epic of the last pioneers, Dorothy and Christian Rasmussen, on the waning American frontier. Told through a series of ballads, the story weaves together the couple's chance meeting and marriage in rural Utah, their relocation to Christian's birthplace after WWII, their struggles against seemingly impossible odds, their family, their joy, their heartache, but most importantly, the indelible imprint they left on the modern American West.
