Q: How can we change the ears of todays generation to seek out talent and creative artist like yourself , if the industry blocks true creativity? Leaving them never hearing what artistry sounds like!
A: I'm not sure if your question is directed at "today's generation", or the industry itself, but I will share some thoughts on the subject as best as I can. I think what an artist needs to do is find their demographic. "Who are my fans?" In my case, I can't compete with "the industry" as far as marketing, exposure and everything that goes with it, all I can do is provide accessability. If they can download my music in a quick, easy, familiar way, then I stand a much better chance of having a wider reach. With the onslaught of avertising and marketing that a person faces just to even read their email, people have built a wall, and will ignore almost every ad that bombards them the instant they get online. Even your cell phone gets hit with ads, so I don't think that more advertising is the answer, it's basically throwing your money away. Facebook ads don't work, period. Using that as a basis for my approach, I find that what people want these days is a REAL experience. Meet your fans, take time to talk to people. That way, they are getting an experience, rather than making them feel like you are just another band, hyping yourself and only out for their money. I guess it's because I've spent so much time in clubs, that that is how I have done it, by meeting the people who take time to say hello, and express an appreciation for what you do. I'd rather have ten real fans, who support me, than sell a hundred downloads to people who never return. I try to keep up here on RN, but lately, I have been so busy, that I can't keep up. That is proof to me that my approach is working. Thank's, and I hope that you find something here that answers your question.
