Also appearing on stage would be Margaret Maye, mezzo-soprano, who is an activist for epilepsy cause and the producer of this annual event that she initiated, using Music to End Epilepsy concept, in order to help her son and others in the hopes of raising awareness and funds for finding a cure and eradicating the stigma of epilepsy. Proceeds will benefit the University of Toronto Epilepsy Research & Other Programs. Hilario Durán, a genius of modern jazz, ranked among the greats, is known as an unparalleled pianist, a composer and arranger of the first order, as well as a recording artist and educator. A winner of three Juno and over a dozen National Jazz Awards, a Grammy nominee, is one of the world's most innovative creators of Afro-Cuban music and Latin Jazz that moved jazz into the 21st century. Hilario is also a recipient of the Chico O’Farrill Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007 and was voted one of the 10 Most Influential Hispanic Canadians in 2009. Hilario Durán has become an integral and important part of the Canadian music scene. He’s also an invaluable member of the jazz faculty at Humber College, where he acts as adjunct piano professor and ensemble director. This magical evening will feature traditional Afro-Cuban music infused with Latin Jazz, salsa and pop. 10 brilliant musicians, and 2 singers will sizzle the audience with a feast of spicy hot and vibrant music, dance rhythms, songs and instrumental pieces.
