“EDMONTON - You can call Eddie Turner a bluesman, but the guitarist-singer sports a much deeper pedigree from his Cuban birthright to his love of rock, funk and jazz. Born to a Cuban mother and American father who moved to Chicago shortly after his birth, Turner grew up with Afro-Cuban sounds before he got wise to that city’s powerful blues pulse. After taking up guitar and moving to Boulder, Colo., he paid his dues in a series of rock, punk and R&B bands before a band tragedy prompted a decade-long hiatus from music entirely. He was coaxed back and became a key part of the Otis Taylor Band with Kenny Passarelli in the mid-1990s. Passarelli (formerly with Joe Walsh, Elton John, etc.) would produce and play for Turner’s own 2005 solo debut Rise and two subsequent albums, The Turner Diaries and Miracles & Demons, all notable for their diverse sounds, all on Canada’s Northern Blues label. Turner has played Edmonton twice since 2009.”
