Demetra's story is one of a creative force that was destined to thrive. From a young age, she was tinkering with her toy piano, pounding out tunes, and performing for family members, always adorned in her signature gold wig and legwarmers. Her unique blend of uplifting melodies and dark melodic instrumentation brings a dichotomy to life that is part Vamp, part Girl Next Door, and entirely her own.
As a teenager, Demetra was already performing at some of NYC's biggest venues, honing her craft and building a name for herself. By the age of 21, she was a founding member of Serotonin, a band that was one of the first in New York to bridge the gap between rock and dance music, with an album that charted on CMJ.
Branching out on a solo career, Demetra released the single "Don't Wreck It," which quickly became an internet sensation. Her international fanbase grew rapidly, thanks in part to her significant presence on Twitter, Facebook, and ReverbNation. Her second single, "Quarter to Twelve," spun on 50 mainstream radio stations across the United States, including New York's very own KTU.
But Demetra's creative output isn't limited to music. In addition to writing her solo LP, she has also developed a prominent role as a NYC promoter and cultural incubator, hosting parties like SFX, VVYNL, and One Night Stand. As a songwriter and producer, she brings the DIY ethic of punk music to the dance club and the pop party.
In 2022, Demetra is poised to broaden her reach with a debut solo EP recorded at Plaid Dog Studios in Boston. She was also one of 300 artists recently awarded a grant under Creatives Rebuild New York's artist employment program. Her company, Creative Muse, was awarded $1.5 million to hire nine other artists in Demetra's orbit. Through her company, she has invented a new educational model called CREATE that can be applied universally. She hopes to create a national movement revolutionizing the educational landscape with her model.
Demetra's journey is a testament to the power of creative expression and the impact it can have on the world. With her music, her parties, and her education model, she is breaking down barriers and inspiring others to follow in her footsteps.
