About
Regarding SMASH-CUT:

"To say Preston Sturges, Jr. is some kind of guitar player is an understatement. Is he Jimi Hendrix class? I dunno, but I'll tell you this: Sturges ranks alongside such virtuosos as Joe Satriani and Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser of Blue Oyster Cult. In thirty-two years of devouring records and going deaf at too many concerts to contemplate, I can honestly say I've never heard anyone play the way he does. Smash-Cut could be a Cream for the 21st century (if they ever got that serious about being famous musicians instead of just famous writers and screenwriters).
Yeah, I've got the balls big enough to say that. Riffing off the powerhouse rhythm duo of Spector's beat 'n' slapped McCartney-meets -Tony Levin six-string bass and RC Matheson's Buddy Rich-meets-Ginger Baker drumming (hey, now I think of it, maybe there's a touch of Ed "Spirit" Cassedy and Toto's Jeff Porcaro in there, too)...well, this you've got to experience.
Add to that the baritone growl of Sturges' Mark Knopfler-esque vocals married to Spector's soaring and sometimes ethereal alto (think John Mellencamp if he were gene-spliced to Sting by way of McCartney) layered in powerfully melodic interplay, and you have a total lush and artful sound that a trio couldn't possibly produce. But they do. Worse yet, they make it look easy, the bastards. These guys know who to play the positive and the negative sonic spaces for max effect; everything stands out.
From their their first live gig to their new CD, I'll slap down a c-note in Vegas an' bet the black 21 these boys will blow away audiences, win converts, and take no prisoners any time they play live.
You weren't there. I was. Trust me. I'm a Doctor. Dr. Mutant Blues. And boy, do I have a prescription for you..."
