"The funk/blues sound of “Souls to Burn,” the guitar-driven rock sound of “The Brakes” and the catchy Elvis-pop goodness of “Earlybird” all sound wonderfully worn, much like a dollar bill that has been used until the paper is soft and faded. Hastings definitely has a great ear for a melody, and his vocals are wonderfully overemphasized, much like Jack White’s. The standout track on the EP has to be “Bad, Not Good,” which is reminiscent of Elvis Costello and The White Stripes, although without the feedback-leaden guitar that so often punctuates the latter of those two acts. By releasing just five songs, Hastings has made sure that there is no filler here, and the resulting collection of songs makes for a brief yet satisfying listen.

“The College of Charleston’s student-run record label Seventeen70 Records presents a local showcase at the Music Farm this week. Celebrating the release of his new single “Earlybird,” up-and-coming Nashville-bred/Charleston-based singer/songwriter Will Hastings will headline the event. A group of budding music biz characters in CofC’s Arts Management department formed Seventeen70 earlier this year as part of their Getting Music to the Marketplace class. “We are committed to educating students in the music business and supporting local music,” says Heather McDonald, the professor of the class. “There are 21 students who worked together to select a single to release and book and promote this show. The record company is thrilled to be working with Will.” ”

A: Right now I'm touring primarily in the Southeast, but I hope to make it out West in the near future. Glad you like the tunes, and definitely hope to see you in Colorado someday soon
