Whatever the Matter

In the fall of 1993 guitarist John L. Sainz, drummer John Domingcil, and guitarist Josh Harden would get together to form the ideals for an alternative rock band. A year later, after a long roster of bassists and singers, the band would finally establish themselves under the name, Medicine Man. After playing many shows around the band’s home turf in California’s Central San Joaquin Valley, it was evident that the music scene they were a part of was changing dramatically. By 1995, with the addition of bassist Steve Crittenden (a.k.a. Steve Babich) and transformation of guitarist John L. Sainz to front man, the band would set their roots under the name of Whatever The Matter (W.T.M.). This new name stemming from Sainz’s personal philosophy of lyrical content was an appropriate fit for the band’s boundary less genre. Whether it’s the swinging funk of “Their Song”, the roots rock/ska/thrash propulsion of “Comida”, the macabre epiphany of “Flood Gate”, or the stinging intimacy of “Go Figure”, W.T.M. is sure to move any crowd of living beings, transcending our current space and time. After their recent hiatus, W.T.M. has regrouped with new material and a fresh state of mind to do what they’ve always done the way they’ve always done it.
