SpEd

SpEd began as a collaboration between two super seniors Pat SpEd and Rob Suburbs at Edge City High School on Long Island while serving detention together. They both noticed that they were the only two always there and landed up talking to each other. Which got them in trouble and got them more detention. After the 9th straight month they began to talk about starting a band together. Rob would play guitar and Pat would sing. First into the fold was Derek Fresh who showed up in detention one day after apparently throwing a snare drum at his instructor who cut him from the school marching band. Claiming that he's sick of drums he joined as a bassist. Last to join was Chris Callous a friend of Robs who was best known for his locker being a fully stocked liquor cabinet. Demanding that he should be the drummer, while waving a broken jack Daniels bottle at Pats head. They decided to have Chris on as the drummer. The lineup now complete, Pat called the band SpEd after the insult the other kids called him since he was in Special Education as a child. What has taken shape is a sound that encompassed many sub genres of punk and rock n roll, part Sloppy Seconds, part Bad Brains part Rocky Horror Picture show. Filled with lyrics about childhood mostly having to do with experiences in special ed and school in general. -In June 2011 SpEd self released their first full length album, "Dad I Learned It From Watching You!" on CD and for free download at their website www.WeAreSpEd.com. Recorded by Johnny Kray of the NYC band the Krays, under whose directions like, "Seriously stop fucking around!" and "You sure you guys are sober enough to do this?" lead to an album that SpEd described as, "The best we can do...we're sorry" -While on stage at a show in the beginning of 2012 in a fit of paranoia brought on by an abuse of Gobstoppers, Nerds and PBR Derek kicked a school desk into the crowd because he felt they were staring at him. This resulted in him having to leave SpEd and go underground with the intent to resurface and start a career on Broadway. -In need of a bassist local exchange student Spencer Kray was sent to SpEd because he refused to call sitting Indian Style by its new racially sensitive name Criss Cross Applesauce.
