Van Houtens Band

The Van Houtens is the second installment of "Sector7G". The band originated in the back room at a local artist's house (Ramiro Martinez). The original members of the band "The Back Room Jammers" (1999) were Andrew Martinez (guitar), Mari Martinez (lead vocals), Michael Martinez (drums), and Joaquin Reyes (keyboards/piano). They later changed the bands name to "JAMM" (2000). After a small run, drummer (Michael Martinez) left the band leaving "the throne" open. Joaquin Reyes stepped in leaving the keys behind.The band changed the name to "JAM". With growing talent guitarist (Andrew) created new songs in a more artistic fashion with his father (Ramiro). Playing art shows and private parties the band pressed on. After lead vocalist (Mari) left the band in persue of another passion, the band rearranged putting Andrew on guitar and vocals, and Ramiro on rhythm guitar (2002). Ramiro left later that year. With just two members in "aDrewWok" and a very limited song list, the band traveled outside its home town to add a seasoned guitar player (John Martinez) but after just 2 weeked the band "Hot in Pamona" stopped playing. After a small hiatus the band reformed adding a bass player (Albert Rodriguez). Creating a new band altogether they named themselves "Sector 7-G" (2003). Playing for small school functions and local art shows, the band gained a steady fan base. In 2005 Andrew Martinez left the band to be closer to his girlfriend at the time (Kristen Tellus) a seasoned trumpet player. Attending music school Andrew and Kristen collaberated in there own works. Later in 2008 Andrew and Kristen moved back to Fresno, with Joaquin. Sharing an apartment with each other they practiced. Later after several years Andrew, Albert, Kristen, and Joaquin regrouped to form the current band "The Van Houtens". With new life in the band, and a skilled horn section, the band was looking up. After their first performance, at Andrew and Kristen's wedding (2011), the band went into hiatus again. On September 5th 2011 "The Van Houtens" were reborn.
