The Vanity Clause

The Vanity Clause was formed in a flat in Southend-on-sea in 2006, after band mates Russ and Dave spent some time agonising over how to fight their way to the front of the over saturated local rock scene. They soon discovered their mutual love of early 80’s Electronic acts such as Depeche Mode, Ultravox, Fad Gadget and Human League, so set about changing their game plan by arming themselves with a bunch of old analogue synths and a Moog keytar. Fusing the sounds from these machines with big emotive beats; they took to the road; and 2007-8 saw the first of many live shows singing their dark tales of faded glamour and longing. Lou joined the band early in 2009; a lyricist with lots of soul, who was itching to tell her stories. Lou’s influences are steeped in electronic music; with the likes of The Chemical Brothers, Groove Armada and Kosheen as her heroes; coupled with old skool soulful songstresses such as Aretha Franklin and Etta James. 2009-10 brought many achievements including the first major airplay on mainstream radio, with ‘Lifeline’ featured on Tom Robinson’s BBC6 Music show. The band drove over to Berlin in the summer of 09 to give them a little taster then spent many months playing successful gigs around the UK and London supporting such acts as Baddies, The Pan I Am and the reformed CUD, whilst reaching number 5 with ‘Lifeline’ in the UK’s unsigned download chart. TVC were also asked to play 2010’s, now defunct Glade Festival. Also in this year, another line-up change saw Dave’s departure from the band. The self release of their debut album “Fractured” on 15 November 2010 see’s the fruits of their labour presented for the first time. The album stays true to their sound, continuing to contrast dark twisted sci fi beats with uplifting melodies.
