THE 2011 WINNER OF FACE THE MUSIC JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI Jureesa La' Twon McBride aka "The Duchess" began around 9 years old writing poetry, singing and acting in Peanut Butter Jelly Theater through Mississippi Cultural Crossroads for the Arts. Music has always inspired me. As long as I can remember, music always played a huge role in my life. I grew up listening mainly to Blues, R&B, Gospel and Soul music in my home and always on the eight track in my dad's old car. My passion and dreams exploded. I knew listening to all the great artist of that time; I just had to be a singer. I soon realized that this was my key to express what was on my mind, heart, and spirit; regardless to what the problem was, writing poetry and music was my therapy and my joy. The first song I wrote was about my dog named "Spikey." Over the years, my writing of poetry along with the passion and life experiences took me into a whirlwind of writing and singing my own lyrics. I always believed that music must tell a story; whether it is my story or someone else. I believe that good music doesn't have boundaries regardless to what genre'. I want my music to touch people(s) entire soul. I want to see that excitement in people eyes, hear the tapping of their feet and see the bobbing of heads when they hear my music. I pride myself as a true artist/songwriter/entertainer waiting for the world to sit back, listen and enjoy the expression of my soul. It does not matter to me how big or small the crowd the show must go on giving 100%. The love for music and the desire to share drives me to be the best at what I do. Jureesa born February 20, 1982 as the middle child of a Howard McBride,Sr a Professional Welder of Pattison,MS and Shirley McBride a Professional Educator of Vicksburg,MS. She was raised in Port Gibson/Pattison, MS area. She is a 2000 graduate of Port Gibson High School. She presently resides in The River City, Vicksburg, MS with her two daughters Alana, Ramerian and two other siblings. She attended Alcorn State University for 3 years in Social Work/Sociology; A Penn Foster Graduate as a Physical Therapy Aide. Now presently enrolled as a Pharmacy Tech at Penn Foster. I started my journey toward recording my songs around 2007, but I had to step back for a minute. So come June of 2011, I stepped back out on faith and my love for true music. I entered "The Face The Music Tournament" in Jackson, MS for six weeks. I walked away as The Winner of the 2011 Tournament and I never stop moving. I am a recording artist/songwriter/entertainer/who can sing the blues. My music is the foremost important thing to me after God and family. I write and sing in genre of Soul, R&B,Southern Soul,Blues and Pop. Some of the greatest artists who inspire me are Tyrone Davis, Aretha Franklin, J.Blackfoot, Patti La Belle, The Legendary Benny Latimore, Johnny Taylor, Peggy Scott-Adams, Ms. Etta James, Whitney Houston and many others. I am fortunate in various occasions to have performed with some legends and other bands such as: V-Wurld Sound Stage Band, Jackson, MS Brees Band, Kenner, LA Central Mississippi Blues Society Band featuring(Blues man Mr. King Edward) Southern Highlights Band from Jackson,MS Sounds Unlimited from Vicksburg,MS It is a blessing, honor and rewarding experience to entertain in the following events just to name a few but not limited to. I sing because it is apart of who I am as a person, life stories and and lessons learned. History of this music takes us back to the cotton fields to the cyberspace of today. The blues have always walked hand and hand it is our culture and I want to help preserve it. .I give thanks to everyone path I have come across to extend a hand toward me moving my career and passion to the highest level. I come with a style influenced by many,but I know me. I sing from my heart and I love to be hands on with my audiences. I have released two (2) singles entitled, "Put Your Cookie In My Milk" and "Did I L ay It On You Right" from my debut album entitled, "I'm A Woman First", where you will find more great songs like: "Can Still Make It", I'm A Southern Girl", and many more. In conclusion, my new Debut Album entitled, "I'm A Woman First" will be released in the digital stores April 2013 under my label J.S.S. Records.
