The best way to appreciate the diversity of Soulganic is to think in terms of the band’s roots. Their music can easily be classified as product of Al Green’s soul, Prince’s funk, Jimi Hendrix’s blues & rock, Santana’s afro-Latin flair, and the Beatles gift of melody.
Or it can be broken down to the essence of the name.
Soulganic.
It is soul: naked emotion and personal testimony.
It is organic: rooted in life and ever growing.
Comprised of Cory McClure (drums, keyboards), Ryan McKeithan (acoustic and electric guitars, vocals), Anthony Rodriguez (lead vocals, bass guitar), and Lucas Torres (percussion), Soulganic has garnered critical praise for their energetic live performances and rootsy, down-to-earth recorded material.
Soulganic’s debut album All Directions Forward (2007, self-released) was a proper introduction to the band. It showcased the open, earthy quality to the quartet’s music vision, touching the bases of soul, funk, rock, blues, jam band, bossa nova, and alternative hip-hop. And this authentic mixture did not go unnoticed, earning praise domestically and across Europe.
Beginning in the spring of 2008, the band began crafting their sophomore release, choosing to completely self-produce and record a project that has been described as a “continuous process of exploration, experimentation and raw expression,” according to lead singer and bassist Anthony Rodriguez.
Currently still in the studio, Soulganic’s efforts will soon bear fruit. Concludes Rodriguez: “We’re just trying to let the music become what it wants to become, and wherever that takes us, that’s where we’ll go. So, hopefully what the listener will hear is our honest expression of where we are right now as human beings and as musicians, and that’s what’s most important.”
