REEVES GABRELS

Reeves Gabrels is an American guitarist who joined The Cure in 2012. He is also known for his long partnership with the late David Bowie, with whom Gabrels collaborated regularly from 1987 to 2000 as guitarist, co-writer, and co-producer. Gabrels, an innovative and iconoclastic musician and fearless improviser, is also guitarist of the genre-free improv trio GABRELS, KANE, PARKER WELLS, with a single forthcoming in 2025-26 on Table of the Elements. His work combines the visceral energy of rock, the harmonic sophistication of jazz, and the emotional honesty of blues. Gabrels has released six albums in his own name since 1995, all featuring original songs with sharp lyrics, the occasional well-chosen cover song, and flights of sonic exploration on the guitar. Imaginary Friends Live (2017) and Reeves Gabrels & His Imaginary Friends (2015) are available for download via Bandcamp -- as is Fantastic Guitars (2014), an instrumental album created with the great Bill Nelson of Be-Bop Deluxe (this guitar-duo title is sold via Nelson's page). Reeves Gabrels' earlier albums Rockonica (2005) and The Sacred Squall of Now (1995) are available via standard streaming and download services. Only Ulysses (della notte) (2000) and Live Late Loud (2004) are at present unavailable, but will be soon (2025). Reeves' own rock-and-beyond trio, Reeves Gabrels and His Imaginary Friends, is currently on hiatus in 2025.
