Bio
The Rawmarsh Mashers are simply two old “buggers” having fun.
The union of Dickie and Myke is the result of their respective partners becoming so tired of their bodies that they were instructed to go out and get a proper hobby.
And so the guitars were dusted off, the strings tuned to a pitch just good enough for folk, the song books blown clean of cob webs, and The Mashers were launched onto an unsuspecting South Yorkshire Folk scene, where they regularly can be found terrorising audiences.

WHAT WE DO
Put simply, the Rawmarsh Mashers have fun.
Our repertoire is wide, ranging from great traditional songs like “Two Recruiting Sergeants”, through music hall, to contemporary if politically edgy numbers and what The Mashers do best, funny songs. And don’t tell anyone, but we also throw in a few “pop” classics to. Check out all the influences and writers of songs likely to be in a Mashers set by clicking HERE.
And what do the critics - Land Lords and audiences make of The Mashers? Find out HERE
The reputation of The Mashers is spreading, as a fun, enthusiastic act, prepared to take their music not only into the safe havens of the Folk Clubs, but out into venues not normally associated with Folk Music.
Nothing gives us more pleasure than have our audiences laughing and singing – well, after all we recommend that anyone listening to us should first prepare with at least five pints of strong ale and a bottle of whiskey.
It might not be mind blowing musicianship or deeply meaningful, but it is great fun, and we hope that folks leaving one of our Gigs are saying “I can do that” and actually do.
You can keep up with what we are doing, and what’s going on by checking out our weekly News Blog and by signing up to our irregular News Letters.

WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING
2008 was a great year for The Mashers. Looking back on the year we are nothing but staggered by what we have done and the many new friends we have made.
During the early part of the year we visited as many of our local Folk Clubs as we could manage, while also making our regular appearances at Session and Open Mic / Busker evenings.
We also made several appearances at Pubs in our locality all through the year and great fun we had to..

Mid Year we began to get invites to various Festivals a first for The Mashers.
The first was the Tracks May Fest. Requiring a bit of a trip on our part. All great fun though. This was Tracks first year and we were proud to be a part of it.
We were then booked in to do a spot at the Birdsedge Village Festival, another great experience for us, playing to around two hundred people for the very first time. By way of change we got the best of that event as the artists who went on before us had to fight against an American marching band.
Dodging the rain as part of the street entertainment and mountain climbing for the Wirksworth Festival also proved to be a highlight of the year.
Closer to home we also did a couple of spots as part of the Folk Club Show Case as part of the Rotherham Open Arts Festival.
We were also proud to be the moving force behind the formation of Acoustic Rotherham, a forum for local acts to show case their material. Having said that the event has taken off so well that we have acts from all across the Yorkshire Region visiting The Monkwood in Rawmarsh. We’ve decided to make the event quarterly, to be held on the last Sunday of the Month. In 2009 the Months are, January, April, July and October. CONTACT US VIA ACOUSTIC ROTHERHAM IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE INCLUDED.
The concept is of Acoustic Rotherham is simple, and a brilliant one, and of course nicked! So thanks to our friends at Loftus for giving us the idea. And yes we have been across to Loftus and performed at one of their Hiring Fairs, which proved to be a wonderful afternoon.
And of course we have been on the Radio. First we went across to visit Jamie and Leomie our good friends at Chorley Folk, broadcast on ChorleyFM and with a really good internet following, where we chatted and played for an hour. We took our mate Rob Slow on this trip just so he could sing his song Leaves.
Our second radio appearance counts as two. A visit to our Myspace friend Terry Ferdinand at BishopFM was really exciting. Beside the two hours of chat and songs we did live for his Folk Programme, we also recorded an hour of more intimate chat for his Folk Up Front programme. Both shows have gone out now but you can down load a copy of Folk Up Front FREE by clicking on this link, you’ll find out a lot about what makes the Mashers tick.
Both these programmes go out of their way to promote new talent, and especially Myspace friends. They really do an excellent job at helping acts like The Mashers to promote themselves and their music. We wish them continued success.

DELIBERATE MISTAKE – THE DEBUTE CD
2008 was also the year that The Mashers were dragged into the recording studio, in the case of Myke, screaming and yelling.
We were lucky to get Brian Bedford at the Park Head Studio in Birdsedge to patiently work through a day and a half of our music.

Out of it all came nineteen tracks, which when parcelled together make up “Deliberate Mistake”.
There’s a Blog with the Track list – so check that out – the nineteen tracks run the full gauntlet of The Mashers repertoire.
