Ran MC

The Coffs Harbour and extended Mid North Coast hip hop scene barely existed before Ran MC started making a few moves. His Multi-Syllabic rhyme schemes cemented his place in the community's music scene and also paved the way for more local artists to come alive and to start showcasing their own talents. Growing up around a radio station during his childhood was Ran MC's introduction to hip hop music, he would spend hours using a spare studio's equipment to dub cassettes of his favourite CDs and assorted vinyls that he would find in the depths of the radio stations record library. Throughout his teen years Ran MC would always keep a pen handy wherever he went to scribble short rhymes on scraps of paper. Ran MC's first performance was on a side stage at Bellingen Global Carnival in 2003 after attending a music and dance workshop with a group of Multi-talented Jamaican artists, To keep the momentum up Ran MC started out performing various open mic nights in his local area to gain some exposure. Throughout his early open mic days he would begin showcasing songs and also competing in MC battles at the annual Intensive Festival, Utopian Dream Festival and Local M.A.D.E Festival while also making appearances and performing live on local radio program's 'Melon Pop Drive' on 2BBB FM and 'Your-Space' on CHYFM. Ran MC would open the Coffs Harbour leg of the 'Reverb 09' Tour with acts such as Spit Syndicate, Tycotic, Drakezilla and I Forget Sorry! and shortly after in the months that followed the success of the 'Reverb 09' tour Ran MC would land a spot opening for Melbourne act Eloquor on the 'Move Up' Album Tour with Tenfold, Scarlet City and Strike Won in 2009 in Coffs Harbour and again in Wollongong which gave him a real taste for touring the to other parts of the Australian East Coast then towards the end of 2009 Ran MC would construct and release "No Loitering" a 7 track mixtape CD offering with the help of Ghosty, Drakezilla and Chance Waters. In the years that proceeded the release of 'No Loitering' Ran MC would join forces with emerging local turntable enthusiast DJ Thortz and longtime friend and collaborator Darkhorse the trio would go on to support some of Australia's most well known, respected and renowned acts and also international names such as: • Solomon Childs, Dialect & Despair, Social Change, Raph A.L and Kimence on the 2015 'Wu-nited Down Under' Tour. • Mind Over Matter and Ry on the 2014 'This Way To Elsewhere' National Tour. • Bliss N Eso, Seth Sentry, Horrorshow and Ceekay Jones on the 2014 'Circus Under The Stars' National Tour. • Spit Syndicate and Joyride on the 'Money Over Bullshit' National Tour in 2013. • Simplex, DJ Madcap, Social Change & DJ Snair on the 'Bounce For Jake' Fundraising Tour in 2012. • Mind Over Matter, Coptic Soldier and Johnny Utah on the 'Just Like Fireworks' National Tour in 2012. • Chance Waters on both the 'Maybe Tomorrow' and 'Approaching Infinity' National Tours 2012. • L-Fresh The Lion, DJ MK-1, Cass Clay and Harjot Singh at 'Bring It On' Festival 2012. • Beats Working and Daily Meds on the 'Found The Sound' Album Tour 2012. During November of 2011 Ran MC's 6 minute, 5 verse long remix of Sydney stalwart duo Mind Over Matter's 'Fate (Remix)' debuted on the Triple J Unearthed Charts and stayed at #1 on the underground music website over the course of 2 weeks amassing thousands of plays and downloads from the far reaches of the country. Those who rated and reviewed the track described it as 'an avalanche of flawless delivery' and 'Vintage Australian hip hop' Fate (Remix) would also go on to be released on the third instalment of Sydney based label Off The Record's compilation series entitled 'Hits From The Song' which was pressed and distributed nationally by Sydney based street press publication The Drum Media in 2012 and again the song would also be featured on independent Adelaide based label Alcatrax's 'On The Run' mixtape again in 2013. 2016 will see the release of a long awaited EP from Ran MC with his signature style laid over beat production from an array of Australian heavyweights such as Simplex, Ciecmate & Tornts.
