PREZ Blackmon
Prez Blackmon is an emerging singer/songwriter based in Los Angeles, California. In 2002, he began gaining national buzz on the Gospel music scene when he partnered with Renee Spearman to release the Billboard charting album, “Celebrate”. A few years later, the 2008 offering, “Dr. Bobby Jones Presents - Renee Spearman & Prez” (JDI Records), peaked at #13 on Billboard and garnered Prez Blackmon his first Stellar Gospel Music Award nomination. Prez’s love for Gospel music began at an early age. His mother was the church choir director and his father has been a Gospel DJ his entire life. Prez eventually transitioned into spending several years recording background vocals on some of Gospel music’s most memorable classics: Mary Mary - “Can’t Give Up Now”, Kurt Carr - “In The Sanctuary”, and Norman Hutchins - “God’s Got A Blessing (With My Name On It)”. In addition, his television appearances include The Ellen DeGeneres Show with The Tribe of Judah Choir, The Espy Awards with Chance The Rapper, The Tonight Show with Josh Groban, The Lady Of Soul Awards with CeCe Winans, and the NBC Special - “At Home With Mariah Carey”. In 2018, as a member of City Of Refuge LA (pastored by Bishop Noel Jones), Prez Blackmon was a featured vocalist on the multiple Stellar Award winning Bishop Noel Jones Presents: The City Of Refuge Sanctuary Choir - “Run To The Altar” project (Tyscot Records). You can find Prez on the mid-tempo, contemporary track, “Rain”. A self-proclaimed “mama’s boy”, Prez Blackmon honored his late mother’s legacy by naming his independent music label “Pearl’s Son”. The latest single from that label is the up-tempo, contemporary, churchy tune, “Thank God For What Didn’t Happen”, digitally released January 1, 2021. Prez has heard his pastor, Bishop Noel Jones, say “Thank God for what DIDN’T happen” many times but felt it was time to release that message to the world in song. “After the challenging year we’ve all had, when you consider what 'didn’t happen', it changes your perspective...it makes you more grateful and thankful.” Written by Prez Blackmon, “Thank God For What Didn’t Happen” is available for streaming on Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, Google Play, and Amazon Music. On June 10 2024, Prez Blackmon recorded the Like A Prayer (Choir Version) with The I’ll Take You There Choir ( aka Heavenly Voices) for the Billion Dollar blockbuster movie Deadpool & Wolverine. Prez Blackmon vocal OH adlib is placed in the movie after Wolverine’s iconic line - I am an X man. I am THEE X man!
