Pentastar

(ENGLISH:) Pentastar first started in 2006 with Arnaud Schmitz (guitars/vocals), David Barra (bass) from Number Nine Experiment & Cyrille Toussaint (Drums / ex-Heaven). The crew was completed with Julien Stark, a young guitarist met at jam-sessions. The first rehearsals were based on jams (Black Sabbath, Gong, The Stooges). All the band's members being composers, a tracklist is quickly formed by original songs and favourite covers (Earth, Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, Saint Vitus, …). Pentastar's first official gig was a Halloween Party, on october 28th 2006. This first line-up toured until February 2007, David Barra being then remplaced by Alex "Sweater" Omeljanczyk on Bass. Pentastar Mark II first concert took place in Etzling, on April 14th 2007. From June to September, Pentastar performs in the local circuit. On these shows, members from the collective Number Nine Experiment appears as special guests, like Jeff Bonischo on Vocals, David Barra on Bass, Eddy Bellatel on Percussions … On Mid-September, Cyrille Toussaint is replaced by Eddy Bellatel on Drums. January'2008 : the band records his first album in Germany: "Electrical Wire Chopped Inside". May'2008: the track "Soulmate" is included in the compilation "Droning Earth Volume XI". The name Pentastar is a tribute to Earth, a band from Seattle, lead since the early 90's by Dylan Carlson. As a matter of fact, the 1996 album « Pentastar : In The Style Of Demons » had a major influence of the band's sound. Moreover, 2 tracks from this LP (« High Command » & « Tallahassee ») are the most played covers by Pentastar. (FRENCH:) Le groupe Pentastar voit le jour en 2006 sur l’initiative des musiciens du collectif Number Nine Experiment. Arnaud Schmitz à la guitare, et David Barra à la basse font appel à Cyrille Toussaint, batteur avec lequel ils ont déjà tourné sept ans auparavant au sein du groupe Heaven. Ils associent également au projet un jeune guitariste rencontré lors de jam-sessions : Julien Stark. Les premières répétitions ont lieu ; ils commencent par jammer sur des reprises de Black Sabbath, Gong, ou encore The Stooges. Un répertoire est rapidement établi constitué de reprises (Earth, Hawkwind, Pink Floyd, Saint Vitus, …) et de compositions originales (tous les musiciens s’impliquant dans le processus de composition, une méthode de travail se met vite en place). (...). Le nom Pentastar est un hommage au groupe Earth, originaire de Seattle, mené depuis le début des années 90 par Dylan Carlson. En effet, l’album de 1996 intitulé « Pentastar : In The Style Of Demons » est certainement le disque qui a le plus inspiré le style du groupe Pentastar. D’ailleurs, deux titres de cet album (« High Command » et « Tallahassee ») faisaient partie des reprises le plus souvent interprétées par Pentastar en concert. Earth a également influencé de nombreux autres groupes tels que les Melvins, Sunn O))), ou encore Nirvana...
