Miles Pike
I’m a gospel artist from the East Texas area and the Lord has blessed me to be able to sing and preach about 150 dates a year nationally. I was born one Sunday and was in church the next, literally. Needless to say, I was familiar with Christianity and the Bible. All my life I’d heard the verse in Romans that says, “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” One day it hit me that I, Miles Pike, was part of that “All.” I asked forgiveness and that Christ’s work would be credited to my account. The trajectory of my life has been different ever since. A love for singing the music of the church was very natural to me. Dad told me that this thing called puberty was coming, and that it would change my voice, among other things. When I was 12, in two weeks my voice changed from a high soprano child voice to a low bass voice. By the age of 14, I had a 5-octave singing range. When I was born, my right eye was completely blind and my left eye had no peripheral vision — so if you cover one eye and look through the circle of your fingers with your other, that will give you an idea. I cannot drive and it limits me in many other basic areas of life. There were times when I was depressed about my blindness, wondering if I would be able to have a job, marry, and support a family. Looking back, it was in 2006 that God started moving the gears that would turn my life upside down -- for my good and for His glory. In 2006 I sang my first concert in Missouri. In 2006 I also met my Martha for the first time. Four years of negotiations later, I asked her to marry me. Neither of us had ever dated or been in love, and we saved our first kiss for our wedding day. We were married on December 19, 2010 in my hometown of Jacksonville in East Texas. Since our marriage, I've been blessed to travel with not only the prettiest girl living, but my best friend, pianist, chauffeur, joke-tester, shrewdest critic and wisest counselor. Marriage has been a time of intense personal growth for us. There were some bumpy roads! The Lord taught us so much in those times and led us to His Word as our guide for every aspect of our life together. As we turned to the richness of God’s Word, we found the work of men like C.S. Lewis, John Piper, Ravi Zacharias, R.C. Sproul, Alistair Begg, John MacArthur, and many others, to be so very helpful. One of my favorite verses comes from the second chapter of Philippians: "Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure." Part of that 'working out your own salvation' is actual labor in a chosen profession. So I do work hard and put my best foot forward with the knowledge and abilities that I have on hand, but I know that all results, rewards, and fruits, are produced by God. We may 'sow' and 'water' all day long, but God gives the increase. That doesn't mean that I stop knocking on doors, making phone calls, working in the office, honing my gift, studying Scripture, album production, and doing everything else that goes along with my profession. I see the time, opportunities, and talents given me as gifts from God that are meant to be used to the fullest. I rejoice in the growth of this ministry, as yet another expression of the grace of God toward me, not as something I have earned or done, but as something which God has entrusted to me, and has given the grace to do.
