Mark Appleford

"Mark's sound is an effusion- bridging him with the likes of Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, Wilco, The Rolling Stones, Little Walter, Tom Waits, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Replacements and The Paul Butterfield Blues Band. He is a singer/songwriter & guitar/harmonica player. His songs can sometimes remind you of the opening scene of one of your favorite Coen Brothers' movies, and other times you get whisked away to a club in New Orleans- with a band playing sweet sounds as you dance the night away to this "tasty yet raspy" voice crooning everything from down home blues to original singer/songwriter material. Yet Mark is not just a fun and games man. He does have the ability to bring a ribald nature to his music; however, his lyrical imagery can also make you swoon with remembrance of things that you had long forgotten- things that bridge you with the unknown inside of yourself".--- Lea Lenahan, from an Intrinsic Communications Radio broadcast in 2012. Mark was born in Royal Oak, Michigan and has also lived & played music in the Staunton/Waynesboro/NOVA areas of Virginia- as well as in Athens, Georgia & Knoxville, Tennessee; The Florida Keys; Washington, D.C. & Asheville, N.C.. He moved to New Orleans in 2014 & began playing in an eclectic trio of songwriters known as "The One Tailed Three" while also playing solo gigs. Mark's 5th CD "Voodoo" was released in December of 2017. He fronts The Set Up Kings and The Mojo Shakers, playing harmonica and singing. The debut CD by The Set Up Kings will be released in the fall of 2018 and will feature original tunes and covers.
