Marji Zintz
Acoustic guitarist and vocalist Marji Zintz, living and performing in the Catskills/Hudson Valley region of New York, is a gifted, soulful interpreter performing a hybrid of contemporary folk, rock and jazz. She has been described as '...sublime,' 'angelic,' and has a 'beautiful voice.' With a voice that has been likened to Joni Mitchell, Rickie Lee Jones, Eva Cassidy, Shawn Colvin, and Billie Holiday, Marji has performed and recorded as a soloist and in duet settings in the jazz and folk genres with various bassists and also in larger ensembles. Marji has also worked in collaboration with improvisational vocalists in a mostly a capella recording and performance project called Sister Sound and currently is also currently one third of the trio GaiaWolf, performing original 'music for the planet,' and is also a member of the trio Becoming Human, a trio (along with Jim Kunkel on guitar and Mickey Kopchak on bass) performing original songs of observation, realization, and transformation. Becoming Human defies categorization, but it has the improvisational feel of jazz and the soulful feeling of folk/rock/alternative. In addition to performing the original compositions of several of her close friends who are internationally acclaimed, very gifted songwriters, including Michael Fracasso and Eric Wood, and more regionally known artists such as Jim Lord, Jim Kunkel, and EC Lorick, Marji interprets and covers a wide range of material crossing into several genres, from folk to rock to jazz, including Tom Waits, Antonio Carlos Jobim, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Her songbook is as extensive as it is diverse, allowing her to perform easily for five hours. Marji has shared the bill with such diverse acts as Koko Taylor, Vance Gilbert, Tracy Grammer, David Amram, Pete Seeger, sonia and disappear fear, Spook Handy, Tom Paxton, Jonathan Edwards, the Kennedys, and Robbie Robertson at such venues as Bodles Opera House, the Towne Crier, the Colony Café, the UN, the Turning Point, several festivals (Clearwater, Rosendale Street Festival, and countless others in this and other areas), and has performed and/or recorded with Jim Kunkel, Joseph Pelletier, Jim Lord, Jay Anderson, Mike Richmond, Vin Warner, Ron Wilson, Robert Weinstein, EC Lorick, Dawn Casteel-Lorick, John Marshall, Victoria Christgau, and Shula Ruth Weinstein.
