About
Maple Stave is from Durham, North Carolina. We try to employ subtlety
where brute strength might be the norm, and bring loudness to bear
where one would not expect it. We favor a shift in tone over a catchy
chorus. We enjoy the occasional change in meter rather than a guitar
solo. Three instruments played by three friends to achieve a
remarkable fullness of sound. Using music to communicate feeling
lost, feeling triumphant, creating space, and closing it again.
EP ONE, released January 2005
EP TWO, released November 2006
We just finished recording new songs. They're named after lines from Top Gun and Deadwood. One of them is under three minutes long, which is pretty groundbreaking for us.
Here's some things the press have had to say about us:
"EP Two is about restraint, teasing and eventual fulfillment, traits too often passed over in largely instrumental music by bands more interested in emotional glad-handing achieved through loud-to-louder shifts."
--Grayson Currin, Independent Weekly
"All the kiddies rocking to The Arcade Fire and Tapes 'n Tapes may not remember the mid-'90s outside of Silverchair and Soundgarden, but many are still aware that their beloved Triangle was the post-Athens "it" of indie rock. Archers and Superchunk be damned, though: Elsewhere, "angular" was the buzzword, math was the subject, and Chicago, D.C. and Louisville were the places for bands like June of 44, Hoover and Slint. Durham darlings Maple Stave carry that tradition, and they're easily one of the best bands in the Triangle."

Thank you.
