About
With an over-the-top, unstoppable live show that combines the theatrics of classic horror movies and a genuine rock n’ roll sensibility, monster rockers LORDI know how to bowl over their fans. As bandleader Mr. Lordi explains, “Create the band that you would like to see on stage. Write the songs you’d love to sing along to. That’s pretty much all that we love to do.”
A crucial element of LORDI’s essence has always been the band’s distinctive monster characters. Amen the unstoppable mummy, Awa the vampire countess, Ox the hellbull and Kita the alien manbeast join Mr. Lordi himself to form an unstoppable rock n’ roll force hell bent on taking over the world.
Since winning the 2006 Eurovision Award (with the highest score in the contest’s long history, no less), LORDI’s reputation has grown to gargantuan heights. Besides conquering numerous European charts, the band has been given their own credit card though Finland’s Sampo Bank, as well as their own soft drink-- Lordi Cola. Their incredible success in Finland and Europe translated overseas and around the world, landing the band a mainstage slot on the 2007 Ozzfest tour, followed by a sold-out run with Type O Negative. As if all that wasn’t enough, LORDI are now the stars of their very own horror flick, “Dark Floors,” which will be released on DVD in the US on October 14th by Grindstone/Lionsgate.
Currently, LORDI are preparing to unleash their latest album, Deadache, upon the masses come Halloween-time. Deadache is the band’s followup to 2006’s internationally successful The Arockalypse, which has sold more than 350,000 copies worldwide, achieving triple platinum status in their native Finland and gold in Germany and Sweden. The band is taking a new direction with Deadache-- more horror-themed than before, if that’s even possible! The Nino Laurenne-produced album, much like its predecessors, is catchy, melodic hard rock, but this time around there is a distinctly rougher edge to the music.
As is customary for the band, the look of each character has been completely redesigned for the new album; the new costumes will be revealed when LORDI headlines Popkomm in Berlin this October.
Deadache hits shelves in the US on October 28th through THE END RECORDS and the album’s release will be immediately followed by a headlining US tour in November. The monsters are back with a vengeance!
