His songs have been released by Polygram Records, RTE Records and the independent Three Rivers label. His work has also been published by Cohesion Arts in America as a contributing writer, and artist on the acclaimed Nashville based 1861 Project. He has made several TV appearances on RTE and BBC and his songs have received airplay and play-listing on national, regional and local radio stations in Ireland and overseas. Other artists recording Liam’s songs so far include Maura O’Connell, Richie Hayes and New Jersey punk folk outfit The One And Onlies. Merriman, as a singer songwriter, has also toured with, and supported, many major folk acts including Nanci Grifith, Christy Moore, Kiki Dee, Paul Brady and Donovan. Hot Press, Ireland’s leading music magazine, described Liam’s compositions in a four-star album review as follows: “inspired by Gordon Lightfoot and Paul Simon… adding his own contemporary polish and a subtle Irish twist… reinforces Merriman as a premier league songwriter”. The same magazine placed his 2015 release, a collaboration with traditional Irish musician Eoin O’Meachair, in their Top 10 Folk Albums of The Year. Liam continues to perform as a solo singer/guitarist and has toured overseas promoting his last album “The Birds Never Cease” and his current release "Acoustic Rivers". Qualifying as a Music and Health Trainer under the European Commission's Leonardo da Vinci Lifelong Learning Programme was the culmination of Merriman’s ambition to promote professional standards and practice in the Irish healthcare sector. To this end he undertook two pan-European hospital projects lead by pioneering organisation Musique et Sante, Paris. The project partners included Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester (UK), Turku University of Applied Sciences (Finland), Music Network (Ireland) and the Krakow Academy of Music (Poland). As part of the practical training Merriman worked in many sensitive and challenging settings in participating hospitals across Europe. Today, as well as being as a professional guitarist and singer, Liam works as a Senior Hospital Musician with Kids’ Classics. He is a Trainer and Mentor with the organization’s: Training Notes unit and a Lead Musician and Mentor with Waterford Healing Arts Trust. ENDS
