Q: How long does it usually take you to write and record one song? Would you be interested in doing a short interview?
A: It totally depends. Usually, if I have an inspiration for a song, or a lyric comes to me, I'll try to sit down and work on it for a bit and expand it out into being some kind of song I could consider "complete" right away when the original idea came. But then I'll usually rework a bunch of it over time. It seems to work best if I do put some kind of framework to the song when it first comes, even if I change most of it later. Then, the band will usually play it live for some time. It helps me to work out the phrasing of the lyrics and will smoke out any lines I don't think are working well. Eventually, when we get enough material, the whole band will record it for an album. I don't really have a studio at home, so I don't record songs one at a time. You can always send me your email if you want me to blab on more about his kind of stuff. I'm a talker!
