R.U.R. - ROSSUM’S UNIVERSAL ROBOTS - June 18 - July 10, 2010 This show is a new adaptation of Karel Capek's prophetic 1921 play that gave birth to modern sci-fi and introduced the word "robot" to the world's lexicon. At its island factory, Rossum's Universal Robots makes the cheapest, strongest labor force you can find; the best bio-mechanical robots for your every need. They're so good, they even look human! But when a beautiful young revolutionary arrives with notions of robot liberation, she is greeted by R.U.R.'s managers who assure her that robots are soulless and indifferent to humanity's cause. However, her idealistic views plant the seeds of a revolution that proves just how dangerously human robots can be.
