ROOTS AFRIC BAND was formed in 2013 and is quickly becoming known as one of the best international bands in Atlanta,playing Gospel,Afrofusion,Reggae,Soca & Jazz.The members individually and as a group have years of experience and have garnered international recognition as electrifying musicians.Opening,previously,for Beres Hammond,Buju Banton,Youssou N’Dour and touring with John Holt in London,England. Headliners in concerts for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta,Music Midtown and Montreux Festival in Atlanta. Lenny 'Doc' Jones hails from Freetown, Sierra Leone,West Africa where both his grandfather and father were accomplished organists. Doc started playing guitar from the age of 8. In secondary school he formed his first band,Purple Haze and later joined the well known West African group Super Combo Kings (popular for songs like Memuna and Ngumbu) traveling throughout Sierra Leone. In 1974 he moved to London UK with Super Combo Kings and eventually became the resident session guitarist at Jet Star Records performing on several albums for that label.Throughout that period he toured with such reggae luminaries as John Holt and Lee Scratch Perry. As a member of the backing band Zabandis, and later as guitarist for British group S.U.S Len performed at major events such as Live Aid and toured extensively across Europe. In 1994, after relocating to the US he was asked to perform for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta,and later played guitar with Diblo Dibala,one of the finest guitarists from the Congo. 'Doc' and his beautiful wife Gloria briefly got into radio by hosting the weekly internet radio program"The Bridge to Africa" on African Radio Online. Respected as a mentor to many artists worldwide, Doc continues to wow audiences with his musical genius playing African Music, Reggae,Soca,Funk,Blues, Gospel and more. He says that in Sierra Leone it is an unspoken fact that to be a true musician one must play all genres even if you have a few favorites. He can play it all,and does have a favorite or two. GLORIA KAMARA JONES Singer/Songwriter/Keyboardist Gloria Kamara Jones,“Lady G” born in Boston Massachusetts. Her mother a singer and pianist,and two uncles, who were classical and jazz pianists and composers. From the age of 3 Gloria has performed for audiences throughout America. Notably at age 14 at The Boston Conservatory of Music. With her move to Atlanta,Ga. ”Lady G” began working with several artists from Jamaica, soon traveled to Kingston to learn more about the music that she had grown to love,”Reggae”.Returning to Atlanta she enjoyed popularity with the well known Reggae Band ,Small Axe and later the Dynamic African Band, Sierra Soukous Stars, founding members, all from Freetown Sierra Leone. In both bands singing lead and background vocals,Performing at Music Midtown,Montreux,The National Black Arts Festival and the 1996 Olympics. Embarking on her solo career, Gloria Kamara Jones aka Lady G has been recognized for her Original African Love Song “Love is All” co-written with Len(Doc)Jones the Legendary Guitarist from Freetown, Sierra Leone. Recently becoming, a recording artist for Mano River Music Productions International, she has a very bright future ahead. Listen out for her new Single, due out early 2016.. ChazAkeem – Vocalist/Composer/Percussionist Awbaweto World Music recording artist ChazAkeem is an accomplished award winning poet and songwriter, as well as an adept singer and percussionist. He has graced the stage with several regional and international artists over the past twenty years. In 2011 ChazAkeem released, to critical acclaim, his debut album entitled “Bonfire”. And most recently he is back in the studio working on his upcoming untitled CD slated for release in the spring of 2016. He has teamed up with the dynamic and talented Producers / Angel Frett from the US Virgin Islands and Redd Lion of KingzBread Entertainment from Freetown, Sierra Leone. Together with their artistry of traditional yet cutting edge style composing and producing, along with ChazAkeem’s conscious songwriting and soulful crooners’ style, ranging from new world beats to sweet reggae anthems, it will no doubt culminate in a product that is bound for world attention. Whether songwriting, playing percussion, singing lead vocals or providing background harmonies, ChazAkeem with his energetic stage presence is counted amongst one of the most talented musicians by peers and professionals on the global music scene. James 'Jide' Pratt, was born in Lagos Nigeria but spent most of his childhood growing up in Sierra Leone,West Africa. Jide has been into music since he started playing trumpet in his high school band but eventually fell in love with the bass guitar along the way and has never looked back. James has worked with various groups in London UK, but later relocated to the US to do a seven year stint as bassist for Atlanta's reggae kings the Mystic Warriors. Although reggae is his foundation, Jide dominates in west African soukous and highlife as well as Soca, funk and pop................................................................................................................................................................................................
