Matthew Emerson Brown (Producer/Engineer/Musician)

ABOUT I'm a freelance producer, engineer and mixer based out of Seattle, WA and Hannover, Germany. BACKGROUND I've been playing music since I was fifteen and I've been recording for about that long too. Before I joined a band, I would make simple backing tracks on my ancient little Macintosh and record them to my cassette four track to add guitar parts. I was amazed at how you could create different atmospheres with all the layers and I quickly fell in love with the recording process. I got my proper start later on (around 1998) at Sonikwire Studios in southern California. I was lucky enough to learn on some really great gear (Neve, Neumann, etc) and assist on some pretty exciting sessions. After several years cutting my teeth as an assistant, house engineer and studio manager, I realized that I wanted to head out on my own as a freelancer. Looking for a change of pace, my band Trespassers William had our eyes on the Pacific Northwest, and eventually settled in Seattle. I immediately met some great people that put me in touch with the rich and supportive music scene here. Since then I've been making records with some great bands and artists including: The Walkabouts, Bill Frisell, Memphis, Lindsay Fuller, Black Nite Crash, The Transmissionary Six, Wayne Horvitz, Voyager One, and more (a full list is in the Discography). CURRENTLY I primarily work at Crackle & Pop in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, and Big House Studios in Hannover, Germany. I've also done work at Avast, Bear Creek, and Electrokitty in Seattle and I've even traveled to Thailand to work at Dynamic Studios and Legend Music. My own musical projects include the over 15 years with my band, Trespassers William, releasing albums on Nettwerk and Bella Union and touring the US and Europe extensively. Also, I've recently made a record with St. Kilda, I play guitar and lap steel with Shannon Stephens, and I've also played and toured with the The Soft Hills. I make ambient music under the name Disinterested and am also working in the world of scoring for film and TV - check out more here.
