Elin Brimheim Heinesen
Elin Brimheim Heinesen is a Faroese singer and songwriter, who has been on and off the music scene on the Faroe Islands since the seventies. She was born in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, in 1958. Elin is a soloist but has performed with several other artists from time to time - the cowork with Faroese composer/producer Kári Jacobsen being the best known, with whom she published their debut album Nalja in 1988 - and now with Ad Libitum, which are: Thomas Michael Smith, mandolin, Heðin Thomsen, mandolin, Hans Christian Clementsen, guitar and Fróði Sandoy, double bass. Elin has had a couple of hits in her musical carreer. Though she hasn't been very productive as a composer her published music has none the less been very well received and popular in her home country. The best known might be "Eitt dýpi av dýrari tíð" (An Abyss Of Precious Time). Her father, the author Jens Pauli Heinesen, wrote the lyrics to this song, which can be found on this site: www.heinesen.fo In July 2010 Elin released her last CD "Yndisløg - Ein ferð aftur í farnar tíðir" (Treasured Songs - A Trip Down Memory Lane) together with the acoustic band Ad Libitum. The CD is a memorial for her mother, Maud Heinesen, and her mother's brother, Elin's uncle Svenn Brimheim, who both died of cancer. The songs on the CD are mostly Elin's mother's and uncle's favourite songs - most of them internationally known evergreens, which Elin translated to Faroese and recorded with the band Ad Libitum in which her uncle was a guitar player. It's her tribute to the musical heritage Elin got from her mother's and her uncle's generation. The CD was also made to raise money to the Faroese Cancer Society. In July 2018 Elin published her first solo album only with her own songs: ”Handan stjørnurnar” (Faroese for: Beyond the Stars). The album contains 12 tracks, which all can be heard here on Elin’s Reverbnation page. The songs have been picked out by Elin from her archive of songs that she has written during the last 30 years, since she and Kári released the NALJA album in 1988.
