DUNN demonstrates that Irish music is no longer what your grandparents thought it to be! Since 2002, Dunn has played a mix of standards, modern Irish, original songs and high-energy fiddle tunes. The four-piece cites their diverse musical backgrounds as the main ingredient into what they brand, Irish Roots Rock. From Cork City, Ireland, guitarist and singer-songwriter Shane Dunn was raised in a musical family who during the 1960s folk movement were the first wave of Irish performers to tour American stages. From the Harp and Bard all the way to Carnegie Hall it is no wonder that this talent from Cork would be impressed onto Shane. In 2002 while living in Boston, Shane teamed up with bassist Josh Oliver to form the foundation of what would become DUNN. With deep roots in Motown and the Chicago Blues scene, Josh provides a unique foundation for DUNN stemming from a career playing bass for R&B, funk, gospel & hip-hop genres. This cross pollination with Irish music is what drives DUNN into this new century. A sought after performer of Irish and Cape Breton music, Damon Leibert joined DUNN in 2007 playing fiddle and bouzouki. Growing up in Nova Scotia & New England he learned his trade from his father Peter, a respected dance caller and traditional musician. Having toured the span from Dublin city to the Cascade mountains Damon's style has the driving dance beat of Cape Breton, the lyrical touch of Irish music, and the sensibility of a Yankee. From The Great North Woods drummer Chris Murphy is a poet, artist, and musician who is much in demand as an expert bodhran (Irish hand drum) player. For over 25 years he has taught, played, or toured with ethnic percussion instruments from Ireland, Africa, Malaysia, and the Middle East. Chris also regularly tours with renowned (Bothy Band) Uillean piper Paddy Keenan.
