Debbie Reifer

Like so many artists, singing and writing started as an outlet for her as a child and evolved into a craft she loved and adored. Heavily influenced by songwriters such as Sade, Amel Larrieux & Corinne Bailey Rae, Debbie’s writing style reflects a tender articulation of the human condition and offers musical therapy for the soul. Her singing style is often compared to Norah Jones. Though only starting her professional journey in music in 2012, Debbie has hit the ground running. She released her first local single “Amber” in November of 2012, followed closely by fan favorite “We are Love” in February 2013 and “Til I Die” in August 2013. On the performance circuit, the nominee for the 2014 Barbados Music Awards "Best New Artist" recently performed during two of the Canadian Music Week 2013 showcases in Toronto, Canada after being selected from an international field of thousands. She also appeared as the headlining act at Redbones Blues Cafe in Jamaica in September of this year. Aspiring to write music for TV and Film, Debbie also had the privilege of writing for the local (Barbadian) film “Chrissy”. The film has gone on to receive international acclaim from the Caribbean film community in the UK, Canada, Jamaica and the U.S. where her song “I Did It” can be heard in the film’s score. " Writing for 'Chrissy' warmed my heart. The film, touches the soul. It tugs at bits and pieces of you that have forgotten in the hustle and bustle of life... that everyone has their own stories, their own tragedies and their own triumphs. I was so blessed to be able to write music for such an amazing story of struggle, faith and triumph." says Reifer. Today, Debbie is focused on recording her first full length studio album in Jamaica with well renowned musician and producer, Clive Hunt. Hunt has produced the likes of Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Rolling Stones, Jimmy Cliff, Beres Hammond, Dean Frazer and The Wailers to name a few. Working with Hunt for the first time this September she said, “Working with him reminds me about how much of this is about creating works of art. I don’t ever want to stop.” The project is scheduled to kick off in Spring 2014. When she's not performing or making the music she loves to share with world, Debbie donates her time to supporting local charities with live performances for fundraisers, including local charity “Variety Children's Charity” which raised over $18,000 with their 2013 kickoff event for disadvantaged children in Barbados. Her "Heart's Like Mine" EP is everything that is human, soulful and easy; from raw and organic tracks like "Amber" to carefree compositions like "We Are Love". Her laid back vocal style, often compared to the likes of Norah Jones, triggers a sense of peace and contentment with every note and it's easy to get lost in the mood she brings to her music.  When she's not in the recording studio, she performs on the local circuit where patrons eagerly wait to hear a "Debbie Reifer original". For the rest of the world "Hearts Like Mine" is the portal to what everyone has been missing.
