Crossing the Rubicon

Crossing the Rubicon is a progressive instrumental metal band from Dayton, Ohio, blending the ferocity of modern metal with the sophistication of jazz and fusion. Founded by guitarist and composer Alejandro Licano in 2011, the band has spent more than a decade evolving its sound through ambitious releases including Ascension (2016), Matter (2018), and the two-part conceptual project Metempsychosis (2022–2023). With the addition of saxophonist Jonathan Baldwin, bassist Adam Knox, guitarist Madison Jones, and drummer Gabriel Coffing in 2024, the group entered a new era—combining polyrhythmic intensity, harmonic depth, and dynamic improvisation. Their forthcoming concept album Knowledge (2025) represents the culmination of years of sonic exploration, bridging the worlds of metal, fusion, and avant-garde jazz. Crossing the Rubicon has performed alongside national acts, released music internationally, and built a reputation for breaking genre boundaries with the seamless integration of woodwinds into a heavy progressive framework.
