Coyote Armada

Named for their college party house, Coyote Armada is anything but the average folk outfit. Frontman and lyricist Bob Barrick has a worldview in the moment; NSA spying disclosures, opiate abuse, and Midwestern adulthood are just a few of the subjects in his sights on Coyote Armada's most recent release, "How Not To Be Lonely." Josh Turner's academic precision on electric guitar and mandolin counters Barrick's often furious performance and works to anchor the wayward sound. Turner recently gained recognition as a touring solo performer with featured performances on ABC's "Good Morning America," with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and with members of the Backstreet Boys at the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame. Bassist Craig Middleton, violinist Reid Sweson, and percussionist Patterson Day complete the ensemble. In Coyote Armada's sound, many find traces of fellow Hoosier John Mellencamp's everyman anthem offset by soweto flourishes and pop experimentalism. A city with a young independent music scene, Indianapolis' musical identity is still in the forge, and Coyote Armada holds the iron.
