Cougar Ace

Cougar Ace is a genre melting rock band duo, with influences from country, blues and audio de-forestation. Cougar Ace is guitarist Joel Caithamer and drummer Shawn Fry. They have been winning over fans and lonely drifters found at the finest dive musical establishments throughout the Midwest since 2009. Joel Caithamer was born in Park Ridge, Illinois. He was brought up in a musical environment in which he dabbled in viola, piano and banjo before picking up the guitar. Influenced by too many musical styles to mention, he keeps LPs of John Lee Hooker, Link Wray, Free, Savoy Brown and AC / DC closest to the turntable. Joel’s sound is an organic overdriven approach reminiscent of the late 60’s / early 70’s. He relies heavily on open major chords, dynamics and a hybrid style of playing rhythm and lead simultaneously to fill in the duo’s sound. Shawn Fry, the drummer, song-writer and spiritual leader of Cougar Ace grew up in Bay City, Michigan where he was musically influenced by the sounds of Peter Green Fleetwood Mac, Robert Earl Keen, the backing intensity of the Funk Brothers and Bob Seger.
