“Band's gig 'a perfect fit:When Rachel Burrum, the museum's educational programs and events coordinator, was booking bands for this year's event, she looked to highlight South Sound bands whose music matched the retro feel of the farm…For bassist Ryan Ramsdell of The Cottonwood Cutups, a trio consisting of Ramsdell and brothers Jesse Hill and Joel Hill, the gig is a perfect fit…The Cottonwood Cutups got their start just a couple of summers ago, when Ramsdell and the Hill brothers decided to expand on their campfire jams… "We started finding our sound," he said… We started coming up with original songs that we had composed on our own and folded them into the band. “Tacoma's veteran singer-songwriter Jeanlizabeth turned Jazzbones into her private living room for a CD release party turned jam session Wednesday night that included sets from up-and-comers KC Brakes Music and The Cottonwood Cutups. Bumblebees marks her third album and was an effort that took four years to make. The CD packs eight original songs with her on vocals, guitar and percussion by Jeanlizabeth, with lead guitar and dobro by the local legend Evan Purcell, winner of the Weekly Volcano's People's Choice Award for Best Male Singer/Songwriter 2009 and Best Guitarist 2010...While the night showcase the new works, a few oldies crept into the mix for good measure. KC Brakes, of course, brought the sauce with his covers and original works while Cottonwood Cutups spanked the stage like a Parkland momma finding her children with a mouthful of cookies. The rockabilly jams on standup bass and mandolin about whiskey and hangovers rounded out the night.”

“January 8, 2012 at 1:53pm Sundays: Open Mic in Steilacoom By Steve Dunkelberger Last Sunday, I dropped by the Steilacoom Pub and Deli for its weekly open mic, hosted by singer/songwriter Jeanne Hopkins - or as many know her, Jeanlizabeth. Hopkins told me she's putting the final touches on her next album, which will likely be out this spring. This open mic feels more like a club than a show. The musicians play to mostly other musicians, so folks try out new songs, ask for feedback and freestyle. Cottonwood Cutups, which just released a CD, and KC Brakes, a regular at C.I. Shenanigans's weekend jazz nights, lit up the joint last week. ”

“Coffee-shop concert honors fallen Lakewood officers www.king5.com Dozens of people packed the Forza Coffee shop in Parkland Tuesday night to honor four Lakewood Police officers who were killed there two years ago... The concert was also an opportunity to collect donations for the second annual Fallen Officers Food Drive, which runs though December 5. The goal is to collect 50,000 pounds of food and raise $50,000 to benefit needy families in Pierce County. Donations can be made at any Forza Coffee shop, Pierce County Library branches and Lakewood Hardware. ”
