VITAL REMAINS will invade Indianapolis on May 24th, 2013, featuring special guests THE CONVALESCENCE and SUMMON THE DESTROYER, RADIATION SICKNESS, CAST FROM PERFECTION, AND LUCIFIST. If you're an Extreme Metal fan, you do not want to miss this event!! The definition of extreme can be interpreted in many ways. VITAL REMAINS, however, takes its meaning to a whole new level, whether it be through using their instruments as weapons for mass annihilation or through unrelenting, truthful and overly blasphemous lyrics displaying their hatred of religion and all that it stands for. Add death metal legend Glen Benton (Deicide) to the mix and you have all the elements of a nuclear warhead waiting to explode upon the unsuspecting masses. Very few extreme metal bands stand the test of time and are able to reinvent their musical styles despite undergoing many lineup changes and VITAL REMAINS are definitely one of these chosen few. Drawing from classic ‘80s metal bands such as Venom, Celtic Frost, Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Sodom and Destruction, VITAL REMAINS quickly brought themselves into what would become a vicious onslaught of the underground death metal scene. The band was formed in 1989 in Providence, RI by guitarists Paul Flynn and Tony Lazaro, vocalist Jeff Gruslin and bassist Tom Supkow. Their genre-defying first demo, Reduced to Ashes, sold over 500 copies in two weeks, proof that the band was quickly developing a rabid cult fanbase. In 1990, after six months of extensive live shows and rehearsing, the group recorded their second demo, Excruciating Pain. The sheer intensity of this demo attracted interest from the French label Thrash Records, which immediately offered the band a deal. VITAL REMAINS entered the studio in November of 1990 to record the 7," The Black Mass. After selling 1500 copies in just two weeks, they quickly became the most profitable band on the label. Shortly after hearing about the success of The Black Mass, the group gained interest of a much larger label, Peaceville Records. In the summer of 1991, VITAL REMAINS signed to Peaceville's subsidiary Deaf Records. They immediately began writing new material and soon recorded the legendary cult album, Let Us Pray. Released in 1992, the album gained much attention in the underground and sent sales to a higher level than any of their previous work, selling over 4,000 copies the first year alone in the U.S. Tour promoters quickly became interested in the band and in May of 1993 they got their first major tour with death metal legends Autopsy. A three-month U.S. tour was a total success, and proved that VITAL REMAINS could deliver their savage form of death metal aggression in a live setting. They entered the studio in 1994 to record their second full-length album, Into Cold Darkness. This album was put out through Peaceville/Music for Nations. Unfortunately, due to poor distribution and lack of good promotion from the label, the band asked to be let go from the contract. Two years later, they signed a two-album deal with French label Osmose Records and soon unleashed their third full-length release Forever Underground. This album brought the band to Europe for the first time, which led to two full U.S. tours with Incantation. In 1999, they returned to the studio to record Dawn of the Apocalypse, their heaviest and most unrelenting opus to date. The dark lords revamped their lineup in 2001 with original member Tony Lazaro on guitars, Dave Suzuki on bass, drums and lead guitars and Glen Benton taking on the vocal duties. They also signed a new deal with Olympic Recordings and are prepared to unleash Dechristianize, an album that all other bands in the genre will soon strive to conquer. This 9-track epic, recorded at Morrissound Studios (Morbid Angel, Six Feet Under), combines melody with evil atmosphere and a traditional metal feel, with no shortage of satanic verses. Lazaro put it best when he described the new album as, "More speed with a lot more harmonies. It's got the brutality, but also it's very dynamic and textured". The group continues to bring to the table nothing less than barbaric war metal the way it was meant to be; fast, brutal and very tasteful. The world of extreme metal is about to be rejuvenated with a new form of intensity as VITAL REMAINS return to Dechristianize the weak and lay waste to the non-believers.
