Brad Odom

Raised in Indianapolis Indiana I have always been around and a fan of music for as long as I can remember. Not playing guitar until my early twenties, I had a later start performing music that most people. Writing music and singing do not come naturally to me and I work hard to create original songs. My music has an interesting blend of blues, folk, and outlaw country as I have been influenced by the folk and blues singers of the 40's 50's, & 60's. Many of my song lyrics are comprised of the poetry I sometimes write. I feel that lyrics are crucial to the style of music I play and want to express to my audience clearly, a story within each song. I am currently the front man of the band Kilgore Trout named as a homage to my favorite (and Indy native) writer Kurt Vonnegut. Kudos to you for recognizing the reference. Kilgore Trout is a six piece "psychedelic folk rock band" who assist me in performing my songs. They are a great bunch of friends and talented musicians. We play frequently around Indy throughout the year. I have a solo album that was finished August of 2011. It consists of twelve original songs that follow a concept and story line. Recorded at home of Johnny and Shawna Ping, they along with Jake Strakis on keyboards (all are K. Trout members) assist me on each of the tracks. "Blood and Dreams" it is called and tells a sad tale set in a fictional time in the Southwest, mostly Texas. The songs follow the story of one of the greatest outlaw poets of his time and his journey through life and various characters who come in and out. I have written a novel about this story and is currently going through the final edit and should be completed by the end of the year.
