Boreal Groove

BOREAL GROOVE Bio Boreal Groove is the loving creation of three well known Montreal artists: DJ Neerav (www.interchill.com), Rodolphe Gagnon on didge (Apadooraï) and Michel Dubeau on flute and wind instruments (Premier Ciel, Apadooraï). Their common passion for authentic world music sounds and more dance oriented grooves brought them together to create this project; something where people could listen, experience a true musical vibe, and ride the wave as it progresses into more tribal, danceable territory. Their debut show was at the Festival International de Percussions de Longueuil in the summer of 2013 and was a resounding success. Since then they've been busy with individual projects and honing their sound, and are ready to take their place on the stage with fellow world ambient fusion artists. Suivez Boreal Groove à la scène chill du superbe festival Eclipse 2014 : http://eclipsefestival.com/wordpress/ DJ Neerav Bio With over 20 years of experience in the global music movement, DJ Neerav is also one of the founding fathers of Montreal’s electronica scene, having come up with the likes of Tiga, Misstress Barbara and DJ Champion. His first DJ set was in Koh Phangan, Thailand in ’89; later, a visit to Goa and India saw him quickly falling in love with the sound of Trance and Tribal. His love and passion for music have taken him all over the globe in search of the perfect groove, and he’s headlined main and ambient stages at major festivals the world over (including Shambhala, Earth Dance in California, Samothraki in Greece and Universo Paralello in Brazil). Label rep and resident DJ for Interchill Records, he’s also an ambient DJ and has released two cd compilations for the label. For the last several years he’s been a facilitator and DJ for ecstatic dance and yoga based events in Montreal. He also works with musicians (Apadoorai etc.) on live fusion projects with his band ‘Boreal Groove’, and is currently exploring sound design and music production with releases planned for 2015. Rodolphe Gagnon - Biographie FRANÇAIS Diplômé en anthropologie, Rodolphe Gagnon a découvert le didgeridoo lors d’un voyage d’un an en Australie. Ex-membre de la formation QuickSound (de 1996 à 2002) aux côtés de Tony Albino et des frères Diouf, il a participé à de nombreux événements d’envergure en plus de jouer dans de nombreux clubs établis de Montréal. Il a collaboré au collectif Métis d’Yves Laferrière, ce qui lui a valu de participer aux Francofolies de Montréal (1999), à la bande sonore du film Joyeux Calvaire de Denys Arcand et au CD Yves Laferrière présente Métis. Depuis son retour d’Australie en 1994, Rodolphe prend plaisir à faire connaître le didgeridoo à travers le public et le monde de la musique en multipliant projets, collaborations et apparitions média. Il fait figure de pionnier dans l’interprétation professionnelle de cet instrument au Québec. Il est le leader et co-fondateur du groupe Apadooraï. ANGLAIS Holding a degree in anthropology, Rodolphe Gagnon discovered the didgeridoo during a one year trip to Australia. Ex member of the band QuickSound (1996 to 2002) alongside with Tony Albino and the Diouf brothers, he participated in many important venues and played in many Montreal clubs. He collaborated with the project Métis, which allowed him to participate in the 1999 Francofolies de Montréal, in the soundtrack of Denys Arcand’s film 'Joyeux Calvaire' and on Yves Laferrière’s CD Yves 'Laferrière présente Métis'. Since his return from Australia in 1994, Rodolphe has made it his mission to make didgeridoo music known to the musical world by collaborating with many projects and partaking in media events and presentations. He is recognized by his peers as one of Québec’s pioneers in the professional interpretation of didgeridoo in Québec. He's also the leader and co-founder of Apadooraï. Michel Dubeau - Biographie FRANÇAIS Michel Dubeau a un bagage musical impressionnant et manie les flûtes, cornemuses et autres instruments à vents de toutes sortes avec brio. Michel est un touche-à-tout ouvert à toutes les nouvelles sonorités. En 1978, il fonde le quatuor Noar sur BlanC, qui comptait en son sein des membres tels que Denis Fréchette et James Gelfand. En 1979 pendant toute une année, il étudie le jazz avec le trompettiste Charles Ellison. L'ensemble participe entre autres à deux compétitions du FIJM Festival de jazz de Montréal. De 1980 à 1987, on le retrouve au sein de divers ensembles comme saxophoniste, notamment avec Guy Nadon, Oliver Jones, Bernard Primeau, Jacques Masson, Guy Thouin, Luc Beaugrand en jazz, de même qu'au sein des ensembles world Ta legal (Brésil), Mascara (Cuba), El Kady (Afrique). En 1987, Michel débute l'apprentissage du shakuhachi - flûte japonaise - avec le professeur Yoshio Masumoto. En 2000 il est boursier du Conseil des Arts des Lettres du Québec pour étudier à New York avec le maître Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin, le style Jin Nyodo au shakuhachi.
