Bomba De Luz
Bomba de Luz is a group of four recent high school graduates from St. Paul, Minnesota. They began playing shows at their high school’s theater during their sophomore year in late 2010. Since then, Bomba de Luz has played Art-A-Whirl, Lowertown Art Crawl, Midwest Music Fest, Boats and Bluegrass, Best New Bands of 2012, Voltage Fashion Show, and Grand Old Day. They have also opened up for bands like Family of the Year, Heiruspecs, Astronautalis, Big Quarters, Chastity Brown and Kimya Dawson. Led by folk rock songwriter, Lydia Hoglund, who “unspools her melodies in big, booming somersaults…her elastic delivery recalling emotive singers like Jeff Buckley and Sharon Van Etten”. (Andrea Swensson), the trio of musicians creates an atmosphere of folk-rock. With extensive jazz training, the rhythm section comprised of Gavin Taylor-Stark, Jonas Taghavi and Evan Slack provides a jazz background to each song that is beyond their years, complimenting Hoglund’s complicated folky tunes perfectly.
