BlackHills Fall
Blackhills fall were born in 2012, even though their very beginning can be traced back to 2009, when the guitarists Luigi Zappulo and Antonio Iuliano, both from Castello del Matese, while working in the same hardware store, wished to put together a rock band, but would not because of insufficient time and working tasks. It was October 2012 when Luigi met Antonio, telling him about the great deal of riffs he had composed and proposing him to recover that dream they had three years before. After a few months Antonio came to know that Luigi was playing with an acoustic cover band, so he burst into his house willing to listen to those riffs. By that moment they started to practise in a three-square-meters cellar, sitting on their amplifiers, and outlining three or four songs. They decided then to look for a bassist and a drummer and to have rehearsals in an appropriate studio, leaving the vocals aside temporarily. Claudio Di Meo, from Castello del Matese, who had already gained experience with Antonio and other bands, became their bassist. Some months later a young drummer, Luigi, joined the group. Blackhills fall's songs reached a more mature level and needed lead vocals. At the beginning it was difficult to find a singer who would reflect their hard rock genre. May 2013 was a defining moment, Luigi was substituted for Niki Grillo, who had already played as a drummer with Luigi and Antonio, too, and after choosing to look for a female voice, they began literally to court Amalia Zoccolillo, a young girl from Piedimonte Matese, who would sing in a cover band. Overcome a first period on indecision, the band was complete and started to practise ceaselessly. Blackhills fall spent their first winter working on their demo, which was to be published in May 2014. But after releasing the demo, the singer, for various reasons, left the band, leaving a void inside it. After a few days of collective disbelief, the Blackhills Fall began to try new singers, including Pierfrancesca Di Giovanni; she showed, from the beginning his interest and desire to give the best; though with his kind of voice, she found great difficulty in performing a few songs already recorded. Unfortunately, because it was impossible to arrange further songs, the band decided to continue the selections. In September, through the recommendation of a friend of theirs, Aurelio, the band decided to try Paola Sollo, a girl from Piedimonte Matese. She, in the first test, managed to impress the band with a particular tone of voice, proving at the same time, a strong interest and desire to be part of the band, as a family. Now, the band is working on recording vocals on the demo and is ready to record more new songs. Their sound is inspired to rock bands such as Skid Row, Scorpions, Guns n’Roses, but also grunge groups like Alice in chains and Pearl jam.
