“'Echoes Of The Fallen' Review..... A Metallica-esque style intro bleeds into the opening track of the album and, immediately you’ll find your head starting to nod as their melody-drenched death metal works its way out of your speakers. Treading waters similar to Trivium but with more brutality to their hook laden shreddery, Anterior really set themselves apart from the rest of the pack by writing some quality epic death metal. Songs like Of Gods And Men start out fairly relaxing on the ears but, as they progress, you know that they’re going to explode and, trust us when we say that, when Anterior lock into their ferocious, fist-pounding gear, all hell breaks loose. Further down the album you only to spend five minutes in the company of tracks like The Evangelist and the gloriously crushing Venomous to realize that your neck muscles will never be the same again but, thankfully, there is so much more to Echoes Of The Fallen than paint-peeling riffs. 9/10”

The thing with the choruses that Anterior write is that after a verse of full on face breaking speeds and dirty riffs they tone it back and have a steady beat with a nice riff flowing over the top. It’s calm yet aggressive and it’s wonderful, more of a short break from the chaos that ensues I feel.“Tyranny” is possibly my favourite song from the album; it has everything you could want from a metal track, beasty riff, fast heavy drumming, section for fist pumping and a kick in at the end to absolutely lose your mind to. To be honest every song on the album is great, they’re all written in the same style with the same structure it’s just that some are just better than others which is just what it comes down to. 4/5”

The moment “To Live Not Remain” comes through with its gradual harmonising guitar build up the track launches into a double bass kick typical of melodic death metal. Some rags and websites deemed this bands music as metalcore which amazed me considering the playing style and the lack of breakdowns of any sort. The vocals are meaty ranging from shout to growl, but really this band is all about guitar playing. “Blood In The Throne Room” has some traits of Arch Enemy and the Amott way of doing things with catchy riff breaks and, of course, the exquisite lead guitar work of Leon and Steve. The bands style is definitely in vogue today being clean cut and highly melodic.”

“‘To Live Not Remain’ kicks things off with a nice tasty tapped lick before launching into one of their trademark string-skipping riffs that drives the song home and is exactly what fans have come to expect from the band. Far more interesting though, is second track, ‘Blood in the Throne Room’, which begins with a screeching solo before descending into a three chord riff that lodges itself in your head like a lobotomist’s circular saw. Along with ‘By Horror Haunted’, it is strong support for a sentiment I have long held; more songs in metal should open with guitar solos. The dexterity and adaptability is nothing short of astounding, but what’s even more impressive is that they can incorporate so many different styles into one album without it afflicting their sense of identity. I would go as far to say that Leon Kemp and Steven Nixon are one of the best guitar pairings in British metal. Easily.”
