Alexis Dunlap

My name is Alexis Dunlap and I am an indie alternative singer/songwriter out of North Hollywood, CA. I was handed an acoustic guitar at a very young age, was taught 4 chords and was told to run with it. I’ve been writing songs ever since. Influenced by artists like Daughter, Lana Del Rey and Johnny Cash (to name an ever so few) I knew I wanted to write honest, unique & intimate songs that spoke for me at times when I felt I couldn't. Songs that told my stories. I was very quiet growing up. Friends were so few and far between, I had gotten accustomed to solitude and this sense of privateness. Not very many people knew I could sing. It felt like my secret and I believe I prided myself on that. I was constantly writing, building books upon books of songs and scribbled nothings (which have been very fun to revisit, by the way. I used to pride myself on my wit…I wasn’t as funny as I thought). Living in Hollywood, there is never a shortage of oddities and inspiration. I began sharing little snippets of my songs online, posting 15 second clips of originals and my favorite covers on Instagram. It became my new favorite thing to reimagine popular songs, strip them down to their acoustic roots (usually add that dark Johnny Cash gloom) and post them for my teeny tiny internet following that I somehow managed to gain the process. I cover just about anything you hear on top 40 radio, from Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, and Drake (even that strange “Whip — Nae Nae” song) to heavy rock and metal bands like Slipknot, Beartooth, Metallica, and ACDC. Literally any gene is fair game. The more obscure the better… Oh, and television themes. Those too. I am working on an EP and will be releasing my very first single very soon. I have had the pleasure of working with other singer/songwriters, producers, EDM artists, and very talented touring acts as a guest vocalist and have a few of those releases debuting soon as well!
