About

Gayle Skidmore has been called ‘the musical Mary Poppins; she sings, sews, crafts her own E.P. cases, and her music makes everything just lovely.’  Gayle’s Cowley Road E.P. was nominated for “Best Pop Album” in the 2009 San Diego Music Awards, and placed on the ballot for the 2009 Grammys.  She has released 6 independent albums and has recorded and performed with such notable artists as Jason Mraz, Tyrone Wells and The Softlightes.  Winner of the True American Records Songwriting Contest of 2003 and the San Diego Songwriter’s Competition in 2009, Gayle continues to be a prolific writer, having written over 1500 songs since she began composing at the age of 8.  A classically trained pianist, accomplished guitarist, banjoist, vocalist, dulcimerist and composer, Gayle Skidmore “brings back the purity of what it means to be a true musician.”

Gayle’s heartfelt lyrics and soulful voice have been capturing audiences in the States and abroad, building anticipation for her seventh independent release.  This album, a full-length version of her Paper Box E.P., showcases her progression into her version of indie rock, which sounds as if Simon & Garfunkel got together with Radiohead at a Vaudeville show and they all had a magical love child with Jeff Buckley and Billie Holiday.  She plans on releasing this album by the end of 2009 on her label, Raincoat Records, with a book of paintings and drawings that she has done for each of the songs.  Gayle believes that the most important aspect of her musical career is to deeply connect with her fans (she has been known to bake cookies for her shows and hand out origami flowers to her audiences).  She hopes that this new album with each drawing and song insight will inspire people to explore the depths of what music can be.

Gayle Skidmore has been performing and touring for twelve years, gracing the stages of the House of Blues, Belly Up Tavern, Cornerstone CA and many more.  Gayle has been featured on nationally syndicated radio and television programs in the States and abroad.  Throughout her career she has remained focused on what producer/singer-songwriter Aaron Bowen calls her ability to “make music art again.”  Her song Paper Box is a prime example of her knack for metaphor and her ear for harmonies.  She has an uncanny ability to achieve a catchy and sing-able song without sacrificing her heart and artistry to the gods of pop.   You can listen to her music at www.gayleskidmore.com or hear it on San Diego’s FM 94/9, FM 102.1, AM 1170.
