Debbie Chou (pronounced "Cho") is a compositionally imaginative and boldly vulnerable singer-songwriter. With a freewheeling genre-bending spirit and a penchant for compelling narratives, her music has been playfully dubbed “sad bastard rock". Her piano and synth-based aesthetic weaves in and out a multitude of genres and traditions, borrowing ideas and concepts from post-punk, piano rock, indie rock, classical, and electronic music.
Her latest album
Fade to Violet was released on October 16, 2026. The album was co-produced by Jonathan Jetter of Right Angle Recording, and mastered by Grammy Award winner Steve Fallone of Sterling Sound.
Inspired by Debbie's experiences navigating relationships during and after the COVID-19 lockdown, the album marks a significant artistic transition. Moving away from the piano-driven stylings of Lovebug, this new collection offers a sound tailored for fans of rock and dream pop as she transitions out of her "blue era" and into VIOLET.
Kieran Rogers describes the track "Invidia" as "her channelling the regret that she feels for taking so much time away from performing and harnessing it into something delicate and beautiful, inspired by the artists that she has seen occupying those spaces in the time in between."
Born in Pittsburgh, PA and uprooted to Taiwan at the age of 9, she has called New York City home for 22 years.
