There is surely some real solid business reasoning behind Duesenbergs somewhat tacky style. When it comes to designing the "D" logo, the glossy pick guards and not least the fancy naming of the models (Imperial, Starplayer) they lose me completely. It is bordering tasteless if you ask me. At the same time this tastelessness has worked well for me. If I go to a store to try a new Gibson or Fender, judgment is skewed because of the share reputation of these brands. I expect a super instrument. When a friend suggested I borrow his Duesenberg Imperial the other week however, I did not expect much. What can you expect from a German (you must excuse my prejudice) guitar with a fancy-schwancy D logo and a name like Imperial? I for one did not expect much. Yesterday I sent it back to him and my heart bleeds. The Duesenberg Imperial is simply a fantastic axe. When I plugged it into my Budda and gave it some crunch it offered dynamics I have not experienced before. If your pick technique is good this is the instrument to check out next time you are downtown looking for news from the guitar world. Next on my wow-list is the fresh twang you can add to the neck pickup by turning the filter knob all the way up. Being a modifier by heart I would bend the tremolo bar a bit closer to the body, but I would leave the tacky D-logo. At least for a while ;) Update: The Imperial is back. The owner wants to sell it. All is bliss.

“The trio plays a kind of experimental, ambient, avantgarde, electronic music blended with nu-jazz. It's also odd, weird, twisted, unorthodox, unconventional and simply freaky.”
