Saturday, June 9th, 2012 at 5:30pm
It will be an all-day affair, starting at 3pm with a reception/performance of a youth jazz ensemble directed by Paul Carr, followed by a screening of the film Icons Among Us. After its conclusion we will be hosting a presentation/discussion lead by Gerald Watson, III, and DJ 2Tone Jones of the Shaolin Jazz Project, beginning at 5:30pm and ending around 6:45pm. The panel consists of Bobby Hill (Transparent Productions/WPFW Programmer), and Keanna Faircloth (Jazzy Girl Rock/WPFW Programmer), Kokayi, Dr. William E. Smith.
The discussion will be talking about the current tendencies of the modern generation of jazz musicians as being heavily influenced by hip hop.
