Art in the Park is a fine art festival featuring visual, performing, and culinary artists from the surrounding area. This FREE event offers fun for the whole family. A children's Creation Station offers hands on activities for youth. Culinary vendors offer a diverse sampling of cuisines. Local entertainment showcases some of our area's greatest talent. Over 30 artists present their work for purchase in every medium; sculpture, painting, drawings, photography, ceramics, jewelry, and more.
The Charles H. MacNider Museum is pleased to announce the date and theme for its annual MacNider Arts Festival. This year’s “Artrageous Art on the Wild Side: Flashback 80’s” theme will allow children to use their imaginations to make funky fresh crafts with this totally rad flashback theme on Saturday, June 13 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Arts activities for children, lively musical entertainment, great outdoor food, and long-time festival traditions will all be part of the fun. All events are on the lawns of the Museum and the adjacent Mason City Public Library at 303 2nd Street SE in Mason City and are free and open to the public. The day begins with the Mayor and City Council’s Pancake Breakfast at 9 a.m. and lasts until 10 a.m., or until gone. This free breakfast is one of the most popular parts of the festival! Starting at 11 a.m. the Museum will sell food for festival goers to purchase. Proceeds of the food sales benefit the festival and Museum programming. Children’s activities will be offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and are free or low cost. A variety of crafts will be available for different age groups, with volunteers on hand to assist. Kids will be able to create and take home shoebox boom boxes, water bracelets, Chia pets, light sabers, paintings, and much more! There will also be a La James 80s hair station. Musical entertainment includes Sara Kay, The Sugar Daddys, Heartland Marimba Festival Ensemble (Matthew Coley, director), and the Mason City Municipal Band. The Art Market will be open from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. with many fine artists and crafts persons. This is your opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind pottery, jewelry, fiber arts, and photography. By purchasing work from these artists you are not only supporting the local economy and their work, you are purchasing quality unique art.
