“Sufi Women Luncheon The Sufi Women Organization luncheon on Saturday, October 8, 2011, featured musician and vocalist Riffat Sultana accompanied on 12 string guitar by her husband and producer, Richard Michos. Riffat is the daughter of the legendary classical singer, the late Maestro Ustad Slamat Ali Khan. Riffat is the first woman from her family’s musical lineage to publicly perform in the west. The enthusiastic crowd was treated to a variety of devotional and ecstatic Pakistani Sufi songs. Riffat shared her devotion to her spiritual teachers in both word and song. She also sang some music that she recently performed with Quincy Jones’ Global Gumbo group at the Mawazine Festival in Morocco. As Riffat and Richard generously shared their music, the crowd responded with excitement, enthusiasm, and great appreciation for the enchanted performance. ”
