Kenny Barron Strings w/ Dave Holland, Regina Carter & Mark Summer at SFJAZZ Center, Miner Auditorium The swinging and lyrical piano master Kenny Barron meets three marvelous improvising string players bassist Dave Holland, violinist Regina Carter, and cellist Mark Summer from Turtle Island Quartet for a sonically rich night featuring a number of piano-meets-strings duo performances. Barron, whose refined and vital playing has endeared him to colleagues like Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz as well as legions of fans, has a history with all three of these estimable artists. Bass legend Holland recently toured with Barron behind their 2014 Impulse! duo release, The Art of Conversation, a document of their partnership that began in 2012 and blossomed during Hollands four-night residency at the SFJAZZ Center during Season 1. Barrons collaboration with Carter began with their exceptional 2001 Verve recording Freefall a collaboration they revisited as a duo during Carters memorable tenure as an SFJAZZ Resident Artistic Director. Virtuoso cellist Mark Summer collaborated with Barron as part of the GRAMMY-winning Turtle Island Quartet on the 1994 CD Art Attack by San Francisco singer Madeline Eastman, and Summer joined his Turtle Island ensemble mates for an unforgettable appearance in December 2014 as part of the SFJAZZ 50th Anniversary celebration honoring John Coltranes immortal masterpiece A Love Supreme.Artist PersonnelKenny Barron pianoRegina Carter violinMark Summer celloDave Holland bassArtist Websitekennybarron.comdaveholland.comreginacarter.comturtleislandquartet.com"With his winning combination of wit and grit, elegance and probing intelligence, Kenny Barron sets the standard for post-bop pianism.
