Phonosonics / Bio

Phonosonics is a Roots Reggae band from Victoria, BC. This powerhouse group specializes in a style of Jamaican soul called Rocksteady, popular in Independence-era Jamaica. They combine an electrifying danceability with soulful harmonies in a reverent update of a vintage style.

Lead by Spencer Cleave (formerly of Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra) on Vocals, Guitar and Sax, Phonosonics has a well-rounded sound with Katie Hegan adding an expert female vocal presence and Matt Bawtinheimer bringing virtuosic trumpet. The rhythm section is an all-star band: Eric Leydon on Keyboards (formerly of Wool on Wolves), Al Udell on Bass and Ned Saric on Drums (both of UnderCover).

Phonosonics has performed in club, party and festival settings. They are excited to be a MainStage act at 2016's Victoria Ska and Reggae Festival. The group has performed tribute sets to classic soul and are as comfortable performing their own material as they are backing veteran reggae artists on tour.

Phonosonics look forward to entertaining you at your local club or festival!
